About the Breast Cancer Institute

Our Mission

 

The Breast Cancer Institute is a charitable fund set up to support education and knowledge sharing, the purchase of medical and scientific equipment, breast cancer research and to enhance and improve the patient environment and experience within the Edinburgh Breast Unit in addition to that already provided by NHS Lothian.

NHS Lothian Charity

The Breast Cancer Institute fund is held within NHS Lothian Charity (Scottish Registered Charity No: SC007342).

 

The NHS Lothian Charity invests in the promotion of better health and wellbeing across Edinburgh and the Lothians. The charity works in strategic partnership with NHS Lothian, the primary beneficiary, and with others who share the vision and values of the charity, to make a difference to people’s health and wellbeing on a local, regional and national level.

Fund Stewards

The fund is managed by NHS Lothian Charity and locally by a dedicated team of appointed stewards with strong links to the Edinburgh Breast Unit:

  • Dr A Turnbull, breast cancer research group leader

  • Ms F Yuille, consultant breast clinical oncologist

  • Professor M Dixon, consultant breast surgeon

  • Mr O Young, consultant breast surgeon

  • Dr P Hall, consultant breast medical oncologist
