Funding from the Breast Cancer Institute is only available to NHS Lothian and University of Edinburgh employees linked to the Edinburgh Breast Unit at the Western General Hospital.

Small Grants

Small BCI Grants

Applications for BCI small grants are accepted all year round. Small grants are intended to fund equipment, education/training (including travel and accommodation costs), patient/staff amenities, small research projects, arts & heritage and refurbishment Please note that we do not provide funding for services which should be supported by core funding. There is a maximum application value of £50,000 for small grants. Funding applications are only accepted from members of staff or stakeholders working within or associated with the Edinburgh Breast Unit.

Project Grants

Applications for project grants up to a maximum of £150,000 can be made to the Breast Cancer Institute during open funding calls which run twice a year in May and Nov/Dec.

SABCS Travel Grant

Each year we offer a travel grant to support a member of the Edinburgh Breast Unit in attending the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) held in Texas each December. Funding can cover economy travel, accommodation and conference registration fees. Applications can be made from early October. Successful applicants will be required to provide a "SABCS Educational Update Lecture" at the Edinburgh Breast Unit in the first quarter of the year following the conference.
